Mission: "To demonstrate & deliver the value of intelligent buildings."
ibexcellence (The Centre of Excellence for Intelligent Buildings) is a membership organisation aimed at increasing the uptake of intelligent building solutions in buildings. It provides an open, neutral forum to represent the sector's views based upon guidance from its members.ibexcellence was established in 2005 and became part of BRE in April 2008. BRE provides independent secretariat and research management services to ensure the effective functioning of the programme. Members have the opportunity to steer this agenda through quarterly steering group meetings and participation in specific research-focused working groups.
ibexcellence has launched a report on how smart home technologies could help new dwellings meet the performance levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Case studies in the report entitled ‘Smart Home Systems and the Code for Sustainable Homes' provide an evidence base of how smart technologies have been used to improve the social, economic and environmental performance of homes.
Mike Perry, BRE co-author of the report, stated "This report aims to open up a dialogue between government and industry about incorporating smart home systems into the code and mainstream practice."
The report was launched at ib2008, "From Smart Homes to Connected Communities" at the Building Centre on 24th November 2008. Some 60 key industry stakeholders attended the event, which was supported by the Modern Built Environment KTN. Copies of the presentations from the event are available from the MBE KTN website.
The report can be downloaded from the downloads section of this web page. The report will be open for consultation until 30th January 2009. Any comments on the report can be made to ibexcellence@bre.co.uk
